Founded in 2024 by Niveditha Chandramohan, Meippai by NC was born out of her undying passion for art, history, and cultural heritage that connects her to her roots. Based in Madurai, one of the world’s most ancient cities, the brand is dedicated to reviving and celebrating Kaikattu Sungudi — the traditional hand-knotted fabric art of South India that is slowly fading from our memory.
Being an avid art and history enthusiast, Niveditha draws inspiration from cultural motifs, historical narratives, and artistic traditions. This love for heritage has allowed her to reimagine Sungudi through innovative designs, blending timeless artistry with modern sensibilities.
At Meippai, our mission is to empower local artisans who have mastered this intricate craft, while reimagining Sungudi for the modern world. We believe in preserving authenticity, while making it creatively relevant and accessible to people across the globe.
